Americans Want Congress to Address Climate and Affordability – Together
New polling shows that climate and affordability were top concerns for American voters in the 2022 midterms. The survey of 1000 actual voters was conducted by pollster Frank Luntz on November 8th and 9th.
Respondents ranked “the climate situation” as the second most urgent crisis that needs to be addressed. Although affordability ranked number one, Americans want the two issues addressed in tandem. Americans view elected officials who focus on one of these challenges while neglecting the other as out of touch.
Voters are more likely to support candidates who advocated for “immediate action on climate” by a 2 to 1 ratio. Among voters under 30, the ratio was 4 to 1. Additionally, Democrats held an 11-point advantage over Republicans when respondents were asked “which party do you trust more to address climate change?”
With nearly 80 percent of Americans believing that the “science is settled” on climate, elected officials have a clear mandate to demonstrate leadership and action on the issue. Support for renewable and nuclear energy, natural climate solutions, and streamlining regulations is high among the American people.
